I'll keep it short and sweet--this is by far my favorite computer accessory purchase in the last 10 years. I've had it for something like 6 years and it still works beautifully.
Battery life is great, I use it for as many as 40 hrs a week oftentimes, and have to replace batteries maybe 2x a year?
Durability is fantastic--I've been HARD on it, tossed it around in my backpack with my laptop, the cat occasionally knocks it off the desk, etc and the only damage to note is that the Logitech logo has rubbed off from use.
Works great with a Mac (I've used it with Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) even without installing drivers--but installing the drivers allows you to assign the extra buttons.
My only (truly, my ONLY) beef with it is that it appears they STILL don't make one that doesn't require a big ol' corded receiver. I'd gladly pay twice the price for one that just had one of those little USB thumb drive sized receivers...or better still was Bluetooth compatible...since I use it primarily with my laptop (great for mousing with limited space or on a lap) that'd make it MUCH easier to pack and use on the go.
As long as you are a trackball fan or can adapt to it, this is one purchase you WILL NOT regret. (nota bene: I never could get into thumb-operated trackballs, so I guess I mean that if you appreciate finger-controlled trackballs you won't regret it. I suppose in the end your mileage may vary)
